The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway is Kent's mainline in miniature - a one-third size railway offering scenic rides through the Romney Marsh
For the past 90 years the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway has been an integral part of the landscape of Hythe and the Romney Marsh. Known as “Kent’s Mainline in Miniature”, their world-famous, one-third full size, steam & diesel locomotives have powered their way along the 13½ miles of track from the cinque port town of Hythe and terminating in Dungeness; a national nature reserve and one of the largest shingle landscapes in the world.
With several stations in between, all within walking distance of the beautiful Kent coastline, the railway provides guests with an opportunity to explore this unique corner of Kent. Coast & country walks, with all manner of wildlife & flora to be seen, cycle rides, medieval churches and iconic lighthouses are all on your doorstep.
The station at Hythe is on the banks of the Royal Military Canal, which runs with the line as the train approaches the terminus. The town is a brisk fifteen minute walk from the station. Hythe's Vintage Tea Room sits between the canal and the station platform.
Soak up the atmosphere of a traditional seaside town and resort which boasts a glorious stretch of beach. You can also see Martello Towers, built as part of the coastal defences aimed to repel Napoleon and his troops.

New Romney Station is the Headquarters of the railway and being 8½ miles by train from Hythe station and 5 miles by train from Dungeness station, it is the perfect mid-line stopping off point housing the Model Railway Exhibition and Heritage Interpretation Centre.
Just a stone’s throw from a beautiful sandy beach, stretching as far as the eye can see, Romney Sands has become a highly popular holiday destination. Indeed our station is just inside the entrance to Romney Sands Holiday Park.
Dungeness is one of the largest expanses of shingle in the World and is classified as Britain's only desert by the met office. It is of international conservation importance because of its plant and invertebrate communities and birdlife. Dungeness is a National Nature Reserve.
