Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway

For almost a century, the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway has been an integral part of the landscape of Hythe and the Romney Marsh.

For almost a century, the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway has been an integral part of the landscape of Hythe and the Romney Marsh. Known as “Kent’s Mainline in Miniature”, the world-famous, one-third full size, steam and diesel locomotives have powered their way along the 13½ miles of track from the Cinque Port town of Hythe. The line terminates in Dungeness; a National Nature Reserve and one of the largest shingle landscapes in the world.

With several stations in between, all within walking distance of the beautiful Kent coastline, the railway gives passengers an opportunity to explore this unique corner of Kent. Coast & country walks, with all manner of wildlife & flora to be seen, cycle rides, medieval churches and iconic lighthouses are all on your doorstep.

Some stations offer the option to stop and enjoy a drink or bite to eat, and there is a popular model exhibition at New Romney station, together with a children's play area. You can also buy souvenirs and free parking is available at many of the stations.

There are special events throughout the year, including spooky specials for Halloween, children's weeks, and culinary treats, as well as the ever-popular Santa specials for Christmas. And if you're looking for a treat for a train enthusiast, there are a range of experience days available.
